"I tried to define this design challenge with few words. But I’m not able to do it, I thought.
There were too much elements that have been blended together when I started to sketch the first paper sheet. History, charm, passion and enthusiasm as well as fear, all at once. Many elements sometimes in contrast each other have been joined to create the distinctive 427′s body shapes. A tough challenge: evoke the classic American muscle cars spirit, enhanced by modern design and inspired by the taste and the elegance of the Italian style. Without meddling with the legendary roadsters of the swinging sixties, even though this is mainly a tribute to them. We had to create something unique but not excessive, something new with a special focus on the glorious past to which we wanted to pay tribute. The outcome has been the distinctive style of Puritalia 427, a car that brings along all the passion that drove us during the design.
The distinctive elements of the car have been designed and brought together carefully. The 427’s design is an harmonic contrast between elegance and aggression. It’s the outcome of a development effort carried out in parallel with the design of the chassis and mechanical components. A unique style, a sort of skin that seamless surrounds all components hidden inside.
A wonderful challenge, the truly dream of any Designer. I had the opportunity to be part of this challenge and see my dream brought to life. A special thanks to Paolo, the Puritalia Founder, who asked me 2 years ago to join the project. From that time being my dream started and I hope that my work does dream every car guy out there that lives with my same passion."
LIGHT ONE Concept Yacht
Redefining the experience of luxury yachting.
These days the nautical industry seems to focus its offerings on luxurious mega-yachts which tend to have somewhat cumbersome dimensions, high fuel consumption rates, over-the-top aesthetics and a vast negative impact on the environment.
This is the context that gives birth to a different kind of nautical project, a yacht that seeks to combine the experience of luxury, aerodynamics, Italian style and speed.
Designed for Bertone Design Milano, this stunning UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) has shapes inspired by nature and the most advanced technologies. It's been designed for professional use such as commercial photography or videos. It can carry not only a GoPro shaped camera but also a professional DSLR.
A complementary gift created exclusively for the owner of the 427.
A timepiece that evokes passion for the super car and timeless elegance. Offered with the specially designed key in an exlusive casing. The half moon shape takes inspiration from the SPEEDOMETERS of the 1960s present in various muscle cars of the period. Three SEPARATE quadrants to indicate the hours at the top, minutes at the bottom and seconds in the middle. The CASE has a sliding opening mechanism. Both halves move in opposite directions. The OBLIQUE reading axis makes this a perfect watch to use while driving because it's not necessary to take the wrist off the wheel to read the time.
How will the city car be in the future in the years 2030-40s?
Imagining a city that is well organized, with efficient services and taking hints from the world of insects, the car will no longer be a need but a delight. It will no longer be constrained by structural restrictions or parking space dimensions, it will be light, harmonious and green like…a mantis.
The city of the future will be the perfect union between ideas and movement. An intense and organised movement that will simplify the way of living the metropolis. The risk, however, will be to have a fascinating world but too similar to itself. Mantide will integrate into this world, but being different at the same time. The metropolis of the future will be a vision, Mantide is my vision. Mantide’s shape comes from its homonymous insect, which adapts to its world just as I would like my vision to adapt to its own world. In the world of insects, Mantide differs itself from the rest for its magical forms and elegant movements, who make it seem almost foreign to its world, while being an integral part of it. This is the way that I imagine my vision in the metropolis of the future, which is something that integrates with perfection while being totally different from everything else.
Dronium One is the result of the collaboration between Fabio (and his company, LightNYC) and Protocol NY. A quadcopter drone with HD camera and wifi video streaming but, more than anything else, an iconic and unique style.
My plans for the “V” began around the end of September 2009. The “V” is a 4 seater coupe’ intended for comfort, luxury and the pleasure of driving without forgetting the obvious sportiness typical of the muscle cars of the end of the 70s. The main inspiration, which eventually became a sort of tribute, comes from one of my favorite cars: the ’67 Chevrolet Impala, protagonist of the famous TV series “Supernatural”. With this concept I didn’t want to do a re-design or a retro-design of the glorious aforementioned American model, instead I chose to create a model of my own which could at the same time be a tribute to the style that I’ve always admired and always looked upon as an icon of the American muscle cars which, with their imposing and almost exaggerated muscular build, create a study of form and elegance which isn’t always easy to achieve.
Keeping in mind the beautiful contours of the American model I began to prepare the initial sketches of my concept and continued until the forms were well defined and could be made permanent towards the beginning of October ’09. These are shown in three sketches which portray the overall spirit of the model. The most obvious feature of the “V” is the imposing “third volume” typical of all the Impala models since the year it was created. Another fundamental element is the shape of the side, which can easily be traced back to the Impala’s own DNA. The fluidity of that area is, I think, one of the parts best conceived by the American designers of those times. And finally, a detail from the Sport Coupe’ model that I wanted to faithfully recapture is the rear window, which falls harmoniously on the tail end of the car and almost entirely covers it. Overall there are few other references to the aesthetics of the American model; there are some significant and some not so significant details which can be found in the muscle cars of that time period such as the very long front hood, the front bump which is less visible with respect to the rest of the body of the car, the slant of the side windows, etc. The dominant theme is the concept’s name itself; the letter V is in fact the main source of inspiration for concept’s design and as can be seen it is evoked in several features of the concept. The “V”s spacious surface was studied to offer a feeling of complete immersion in the surrounding environment making trips more pleasurable, not only for the driver, but for the passengers as well. The car’s dimensions are also noteworthy. About 5000mm in length, 2000mm in width, and a height of about 1400mm. Ideally I predicted the use of hybrid motor, currently in high demand even for designer cars, electrically and fuel run which can guarantee optimal and eco-friendly performance. The “V” was born days before I even picked up pen and paper for my first sketches. I began to see it while driving to work and looking out my rearview mirror I could already see the image of a car which was imposing, elegant and striking, but at the same time sporty and aggressive. About two months later, the V is come.
THE 427 - from concept to reality
This gallery has been called in this way for just one single reason: it is true.
The Puritalia 427 is probably the most amazing project the every car designer would love to be part of. I had the fortune to be asked to design the 427 all by myself. And now I want to guide you through the design process of what I call "my baby".
From concept to reality we said. Well, now it's time to enjoy the video that we realized with LightNYC to tease the launch of the first prototype on December 2014.
The Saab 91 Concept is a study of a B-segment model which is being developed for the Online Community 'Saab 91 Petition and Support Group'. An Open Source-inspired model.
The car, designed in 2008, was targeted to compete against the Mini in the premium B-segment - has compact dimensions (3,870 mm long, 1,420mm tall and 1,700 mm wide) and short overhangs.
The overall look deliberately avoids any rétro element, adopting the current design language of the brand, inspired by concept cars such as the BioHybrid and Aero X. The front end expresses pure aggressivity, without distorting Saab's design cues. The main element is that the grille and the headlights are integrated into a single element, visually contrasted by the air intakes of the bumper. In side view, the dynamic character is underlined by the muscular shoulders, the wheel arches and by the sculpted panels, while the DLO (Day Light Opening) has shapes inspired by the 9-X BioHybrid Concept. The rear end is dominated by the arrow-shaped lighting units, which give the car a distinctive lighting signature in the dark.
